Coffee Trader

About the role

Louis Dreyfus Company is seeking a Coffee Trader to manage the purchase and sale of coffee across Kenya. The role involves negotiating contracts, building relationships with roasters, traders and importers, and supporting the company’s commodity trading activities in East Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Negotiate price, quality, shipment periods, payment terms and Incoterms (FOB) with customers.
• Develop and manage a portfolio of coffee customers, including roasters, traders and importers.
• Conduct origin travel, crop assessments and producer visits to evaluate coffee quality and supply conditions.
• Oversee execution of FOB contracts from confirmation through shipment and resolve any issues.
• Provide market insights, price guidance and identify new business opportunities.
• Maintain accurate trade records, contracts, shipping instructions and support audit reporting.
• Monitor risk, credit terms and ensure compliance with trade regulations and internal controls.
• Assist in managing trade positions, updating P&L reporting and follow up on late payments.

Required profile

• University degree in Business or related field.
• Strong knowledge of Kenya coffee grades, cash and futures markets, and global coffee supply‑demand dynamics.
• Ability to work under pressure, think quickly and handle complex negotiations.
• Good mathematical and analytical abilities.

Required skills

• Excel (formulas, modelling) and general Microsoft Office proficiency.
