Compliance Officer

About the role

Bank of Africa is hiring a full-time, on-site Compliance Officer in Nairobi. The role ensures the bank complies with its own policies and with external laws and regulations covering customer due diligence, anti-money laundering, countering the financing of terrorism and countering proliferation financing. It also controls and manages financial crime risks related to money laundering, terrorism financing, proliferation financing and compliance with financial embargoes and sanctions.

Key responsibilities

• Submit regulatory reports within required timelines and ensure compliance with due diligence and KYC requirements
• Keep the internal blacklist updated and review the compliance risk management policy and related procedures
• Cooperate with regulators and law enforcement, and monitor media daily for high-risk and adverse customers
• Monitor, screen and treat AML alerts, follow up flagged alerts with analysis and documentation, and review customer-initiated transactions
• Review first-level suspicious transaction reports and file accurate reports with the relevant authorities
• Prepare regular AML reports for the MLRO, group and senior management, and submit regulatory reports to the CBK, FRC and other bodies
• Take part in AML, CFT and CPF training, compliance projects and system testing

Required profile

• University degree in Business or a related field such as Economics from a recognised institution
• At least 3 years of banking experience in a compliance or risk department
• Demonstrated expertise and in-depth knowledge of AML/CFT/CPF and KYC controls
• Understanding of Central Bank prudential guidelines, POCAMLA, Basel rules, the Banking Act, IFRS and other banking statutes
