Construction Project Manager (Capital Projects)

About the role

A leading organisation with a significant capital projects portfolio, represented by its consultant, is seeking an experienced Project Manager - Construction to oversee the planning, execution and delivery of capital investment projects. The successful candidate ensures projects are completed on time, within approved budgets and in line with safety, quality and regulatory standards, while coordinating internal teams, contractors and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Define project scope, objectives and deliverables; support URS, business cases and investment justifications
• Develop charters, schedules and cost estimates in MS Project, Primavera or equivalent, and identify risks
• Manage greenfield and brownfield developments, coordinating contractors and consultants
• Monitor milestones, expenditure and technical specifications; support vendor evaluation and contract oversight
• Prepare weekly progress updates, monthly CAPEX reports and risk registers; track schedule, cost and safety variances
• Control costs, review contractor claims and ensure compliance with financial policies and audit requirements
• Ensure health, safety and environmental compliance, conduct site inspections and audits
• Oversee commissioning, testing, validation, handover, post-implementation reviews and the Defects Liability Period
• Support standard project templates, toolkits and knowledge transfer

Required profile

• 4-7 years of experience in CAPEX project management
• Background in civil engineering, construction or a related technical discipline preferred
• Proven ability to manage substantial budgets, including multi-million-dollar investments
• Experience in Africa or other emerging markets is desirable

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Project, Primavera or equivalent scheduling tools
• Project management certification such as PMP or PRINCE2 is an added advantage
