Consultant – Donor Landscape Assessment

About the role

Pathfinder International Kenya, a registered NGO under the Kenya PBO Act, wants to diversify its funding beyond traditional donors into philanthropy, corporate social investment and foundations. It is seeking an external consultant to carry out a market assessment of these donor segments and give strategic recommendations on engagement, investment needs and expected returns. The assignment runs in October-November 2026 and lasts about 15 working days.

Key responsibilities

• Review historical and current funding trends, focusing on philanthropy, corporate social investment and foundations.
• Map the landscape of current donors in Kenya, including bilateral, corporate donors, foundations and social enterprises, and the types of organizations (local vs international) they prefer to fund.
• Analyze giving behaviors, motivations and barriers, and benchmark peer organizations on who accesses these funds, how much is secured and what investments were needed.
• Assess financial, staffing, systems and partnership requirements, timelines and risks for return on investment.
• Recommend funding targets for 2027-2033 and advise on the feasibility of operating locally versus as an INGO.
• Deliver an inception report, a draft market assessment, final report with scenario-based funding targets, a dataset and a presentation to management.

Required profile

• Proven experience in resource mobilization, donor landscape analysis and strategic planning in Kenya and East Africa.
• Strong knowledge of Kenya's donor landscape, including philanthropy, private sector and corporate giving.
• Experience working with NGOs or development organizations in Kenya.
• Excellent analytical, communication, presentation and stakeholder engagement skills.

Proposals are submitted electronically as a sealed technical proposal and a sealed cost proposal, both signed and valid for at least 60 days. Selection is by two-stage process (technical then cost) and the total budget is a key factor; payments are tied to approved deliverables.
