Customs Declarations Agent – Nairobi

About the role

Priority Worldwide is seeking a reliable and detail‑oriented Declarations Agent to join its Nairobi office. The role involves preparing and processing customs declarations, ensuring compliance with Kenyan customs regulations, coordinating with government agencies, and supporting the efficient clearance of import and export shipments.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare, process, and submit import and export customs declarations using platforms such as ICMS, KenTrade, PRIMIS, KWATOS and CargoWise.
• Review commercial invoices, Bills of Lading, Air Waybills, packing lists, certificates of origin and other shipping documents to ensure accurate tariff classification and duty calculation.
• Coordinate customs clearance activities with KRA, KEBS, KEPHIS, PPB, Port Health and other regulatory authorities, as well as shipping lines and airlines.
• Obtain and verify required permits, licenses, certificates and regulatory approvals for a wide range of cargo, including dangerous goods and oversized shipments.
• Resolve customs‑related issues, documentation discrepancies and compliance matters while maintaining accurate records for audit purposes.

Required profile

• Diploma or Certificate in Clearing & Forwarding, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or a related field; KESRA certification or training preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in customs declarations, customs brokerage or freight forwarding, with strong knowledge of Kenyan Customs and EAC procedures.
• Experience working with government agencies such as KRA, KEBS, KEPHIS, PPB and Port Health.
• Proficiency with customs platforms (ICMS, KenTrade, PRIMIS, KWATOS) and Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational and communication skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
