Data Engineer

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly technical Data Engineer to join our Data Analytics department in Nairobi. You will shape our data engineering foundations, define best practices, and help launch our first internal AI tools and intelligent workflows.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and deploy robust data ingestion pipelines using Google Cloud tools such as Datastream and Dataflow.
• Transform raw data into clean, analyst‑ready datasets with dbt, SQL and Python.
• Manage Data Warehouse administration, ensuring performance, security and governance.
• Define and implement data governance rules and maintain data quality standards.
• Support data architecture evolution and develop custom AI agents, tools and automated workflows.

Required profile

• At least 3 years of proven experience in Data Engineering or Back‑end Engineering.
• Advanced proficiency in SQL and strong coding skills in Python.

Required skills

• Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Datastream, Dataflow).
• dbt (data build tool) for data transformation.
• Version control with Git.
• Experience with modern data warehousing, ETL/ELT processes and data streaming.
• Familiarity with AI concepts such as vector databases, retrieval‑augmented generation and LLM integration.
