Data Protection Officer

About the role

Murang'a University of Technology is seeking a Data Protection Officer (DPO) to ensure compliance with Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019, and to protect the personal data of students, staff and visitors. The DPO acts as the university's appointed officer for data protection matters.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with data protection laws and publish the DPO contact details
• Serve as the primary contact for data protection concerns and questions
• Facilitate communication between the university and data subjects on data handling practices
• Manage data subject rights, including access, correction, deletion and objection requests
• Oversee lawful, fair and transparent processing of personal data
• Implement notification and transparency measures for data collection
• Establish and maintain security measures to protect personal data
• Ensure compliance with Sections 24(6), 26, 28, 29 and 30 of the Data Protection Act, 2019

Required profile

• Knowledge of Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019
• Understanding of data protection principles and regulations
• Experience in data protection compliance
• Strong communication skills for managing data subject inquiries
