About the role
The Dean of Students will lead all aspects of student welfare at Mount Kenya University, ensuring a supportive environment for academic and non‑academic development. This senior management position reports to senior university leadership and works closely with deans, student bodies, and external agencies.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate all matters related to student welfare, including health, accommodation, and catering services.
- Advise the Senate on student welfare policies and promote dialogue between students and university administration.
- Oversee co‑curricular activities such as sports, drama, music, and community outreach programmes.
- Promote student discipline, act as liaison with law courts and security agencies, and enforce the student association constitution.
- Prepare and manage budgets and work plans for student welfare initiatives.
- Serve as Returning Officer for Student Council elections, ensuring fair and peaceful campaigns.
- Facilitate communication with student clubs, societies, and governing bodies to foster cohesion.
- Provide secretariat services to student councils and periodically review the strategic student welfare plan.
Required profile
- PhD in a relevant field with a minimum of three years’ experience in a comparable senior academic‑administrative role, or
- Master’s degree in Food Production, Food & Beverage Service, Hospitality Management or a related area with at least three years’ experience, or
- Bachelor’s degree in the same fields with a minimum of five years’ experience.
- Computer literacy is essential.
