Departmental Technician – Hospitality & Culinary Arts

About the role

The Departmental Technician provides technical and practical support for hospitality, culinary arts, and food production training at Zetech University. The role ensures kitchens and restaurants are ready for practical sessions and assists lecturers during demonstrations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide shift‑based technical support across two kitchens and two restaurants, including preparation, supervision, cleaning, equipment management and post‑practical activities.
• Enforce food safety, hygiene, occupational health and safety standards in all practical areas.
• Monitor use of ingredients, equipment and resources, maintaining records of issues, returns, damages and wastage.
• Assist in receipt, storage, preparation and issuance of ingredients, utensils, cutlery and other materials.
• Conduct routine equipment checks, report faults and coordinate maintenance.
• Support lecturers during practical sessions, demonstrations, student activities and assessments.

Required profile

• Diploma in Hospitality Management, Culinary Arts, Food Production, Food & Beverage Management or a related field from a recognized institution.
• Relevant practical experience in a commercial kitchen, restaurant or hospitality training environment (preferred).
• Professional certification or specialized training in food safety, culinary arts or related areas (advantageous).
• Good communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
