Deputy Project Coordinator - MSF Dagahaley Project

About the role

MSF is looking for a Deputy Project Coordinator for its Dagahaley project in Garissa, Kenya. The role supports the Project Coordinator in planning, implementing and monitoring project activities for a 750-bed hospital serving 150,000 refugees and the host community in a remote, insecure area near the Somali border. It is a full-time, on-site position.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse the political, humanitarian, economic and social context so that MSF's principles and policies are respected by staff, communities, authorities and partners.
• Support the Project Coordinator in planning, implementation, monitoring and follow-up of project activities.
• Take part in project security management, including reviewing and updating security guidelines.
• When delegated, represent MSF with local authorities, media and other stakeholders and support negotiation of collaboration agreements; legal representation only with formal authorisation.
• Help plan and manage project human resources, including induction, supervision, performance evaluation and training needs.
• Join exploratory and assessment missions and maintain contact with local stakeholders and community representatives.
• Monitor security developments, safeguard MSF's neutrality, independence and impartiality, and stay flexible outside regular working hours.

Required profile

• Degree in Project Management, Development Studies, Public Administration or a related field.
• At least two years of experience in humanitarian aid with MSF or another international NGO.
• Minimum two years of supervisory or managerial experience.
• Experience in developing countries and/or remote or hardship locations, and in security management and stakeholder engagement.
• English required; Kiswahili and Somali are an asset.
