Electrical Design Engineer

About the role

We are looking for an Electrical Design Engineer to join a leading renewable energy consulting firm in Nairobi, supporting utility‑scale solar projects and related power infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Design and engineer inverter stations, MV transformer and switching stations, and utility metering systems.
• Interpret specifications and drawings to create safe, functional designs for cable layouts, equipment placement, lighting, earthing and lightning protection.
• Perform cable tray and trench sizing, develop cable routing and underground raceway layouts, and prepare single‑line diagram schematics.
• Produce layout designs for Main Control Rooms (MCR) and Inverter Stations (IS), including cable sizing and length calculations.
• Enhance AutoCAD applications with plugins and ensure designs comply with national and international codes.
• Collaborate with internal teams, vendors and clients, stay updated on new product technologies, and develop standard operating procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
• 1–3 years of experience in solar PV design, substation engineering or power system studies.
• Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Ability to manage multiple technical tasks and prepare detailed reports and documentation.
• Knowledge of DC & AC engineering standards such as IEC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, SEC and IS.
• Consultancy/EPC experience on utility‑scale solar projects is desirable.
• Willingness to travel for site visits domestically and internationally.
