English, History & SPHE Teacher

About the role

The Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board is seeking a qualified teacher to deliver English, History and Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE) to secondary students on a fixed‑term basis covering a career break.

Key responsibilities

• Teach English (14 hrs/week), History (7 hrs/week) and SPHE (1 hr/week) in accordance with the national curriculum.
• Plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons that meet syllabus specifications.
• Assess student learning, record progress and provide constructive feedback.
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop cross‑curricular projects and integrate literacy, numeracy and critical thinking.
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions and school events.

Required profile

• Current registration with the Teaching Council of Ireland.
• Recognised teaching qualification for the advertised subjects.
• Demonstrated competence in professional knowledge, practice, communication and self‑management.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with curriculum changes.

Required skills

• In‑depth knowledge of English, History and SPHE curricula.
• Effective classroom management and instructional strategies.
• Ability to integrate cross‑curricular links and promote critical thinking.
