Executive Pastry Chef – Celebration & Specialty Cakes

About the role

The Social House is looking for an Executive Pastry Chef to lead and shape its pastry and bakery experience across the venue, with a focus on turning The Living Room into a go‑to destination for exceptional pastries and celebration cakes in Nairobi.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the entire pastry and bakery operation, ensuring high standards of quality, taste, texture, presentation and consistency.
• Develop a distinctive French‑inspired pâtisserie offering, creating signature pastries, croissants, viennoiserie, artisan breads, cakes, tarts, entremets, petits gâteaux and plated desserts.
• Balance classic French techniques with contemporary flavours and locally relevant ideas, producing seasonal collections, festive ranges and limited‑edition concepts.
• Create and maintain standard recipes, production specifications, yields, portion sizes and visual standards, building systems that deliver consistent quality every shift.
• Plan production requirements, manage stock levels, monitor ingredient usage, control waste and uphold strong food‑cost discipline.
• Collaborate with Procurement on ingredient quality and supplier performance, and work closely with the Executive Chef and culinary team on menus, promotions and special events.
• Lead, coach and develop pastry team members, transferring technical knowledge and building collective capability.
• Partner with commercial and marketing teams to design pastry experiences that drive guest traffic and revenue.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, hygiene and health‑and‑safety standards, maintaining cleanliness and operational discipline in the pastry kitchen.
• Monitor equipment condition, address maintenance issues promptly and drive continuous improvement, innovation and efficiency throughout the pastry operation.
