Field Station Attendant – Grounds Maintenance

About the role

The Field Station Attendant will ensure that the research station’s grounds and facilities are kept clean, safe, and well‑maintained. Working on‑site at the Westlands field station, you will support daily operations, security coordination, and occasional monitoring of research trials.

Key responsibilities

• Mow, trim and maintain grassed areas using powered strimmers, mowers and related equipment.
• Clean and upkeep station grounds, facilities and remove any waste or debris.
• Coordinate security matters, escalating any significant challenges to management.
• Maintain accurate records of preventive and routine maintenance for equipment and tools.
• Act as the primary ICIPE representative at the station, inspecting records and reporting repair needs.
• Occasionally monitor field research trials and provide support as required.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
• At least one (1) year of relevant experience in grounds maintenance, facilities support, property or field station management, or security coordination.
• Experience keeping records of maintenance activities, equipment usage and routine inspections.
• Strong record‑keeping and organisational abilities.
• Ability to work independently without supervision.
• Good interpersonal and teamwork skills.
