Finance & Compliance Director – Land Border Programme

About the role

Mercy Corps is seeking a Finance & Compliance Director to lead the financial management of its UK‑funded Land Border Programme in East Africa. Based in Nairobi, the role will oversee budgeting, accounting, and compliance for a multi‑year, multi‑country initiative aimed at preventing human trafficking and supporting vulnerable migrants.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the multi‑year budgeting process, incorporating inputs from programme leads, country teams, partners and HQ.
• Maintain robust financial oversight across multiple countries, partners and separate awards throughout the programme lifecycle.
• Develop and update annual fiscal year budgets with senior managers and partners, adjusting for budget ceiling changes.
• Participate in Activity‑Based Budget (ABB) calls with the donor, maintain a live ABB, and conduct monthly reviews.
• Provide financial analysis, accounting management and quality control for all programme expenditures.
• Ensure compliance with Mercy Corps and FCDO policies, procedures and reporting requirements.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in finance, grants or compliance within international development or humanitarian settings.
• Strong understanding of multi‑country programme financing and donor regulations.
• Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
