Financial Controller

About the role

A hospitality establishment in one of Nairobi's suburbs is recruiting a Financial Controller through its recruiter, Stratostaff East Africa. The role reports to the General Manager and leads a finance team including a finance accountant, F&B controller, credit controller, procurement manager and ICT manager. The Financial Controller provides financial leadership, ensures regulatory compliance and drives strategic decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage technical financial and accounting matters, implement financial controls across the finance value chain and develop and coach finance team members.
• Oversee budget preparation with the General Manager and Treasurer, set financial performance measures, monitor budget discipline and report on efficiencies.
• Ensure accurate, compliant financial records, prepare monthly management accounts and year-end reports, reconcile accounts and manage the financial reporting information system.
• Oversee debt collection, analyse debtor profiles and streamline member payment options.
• Manage cash flows, negotiate with financial institutions, maintain a fixed asset register and ensure proper treasury systems.
• Supervise transaction processing, review and update financial policies and procedures, and ensure timely tax remittance and compliance with legal requirements.
• Attend board committee meetings, implement and report on their action points.

Required profile

• Master's or Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Accounting or Finance.
• Member of the Institute of Chartered Public Accountants Kenya (ICPAK) with a practicing license.
• Minimum of 7 years' experience as a Financial Controller in a busy organisation.
• Exceptional leadership and communication skills, effective time management and ability to manage multiple projects with multiple stakeholders.
