Fleet Manager

About the role

The Fleet Manager will lead a team of 35‑40 drivers, ensuring timely pick‑up and delivery operations while maximizing revenue and maintaining a strong safety record. This role combines coaching, dispatch coordination, and driver retention responsibilities within a fast‑paced corporate office environment.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor driver check‑calls to track locations and estimate delivery times.
• Receive and review load assignments from Customer Service, confirming suitability.
• Dispatch loads, providing drivers with load details, routing, directions, and fuel information.
• Communicate with customers to obtain directions, schedule appointments, and address changes.
• Notify Customer Service of any issues that could affect customer expectations or load assignments.
• Promote safety by aligning dispatch with drivers’ hours of service and company policies.
• Focus on driver retention through understanding preferences, monitoring performance, and maintaining motivation.
• Conduct driver evaluations, route meetings, and resolve conflicts related to home time, pay, equipment, or assignments.
• Maintain accurate records of driver performance and productivity.
• Participate in Quality/Kaizen teams and attend relevant company meetings.

Required profile

• Four‑year degree, preferably in Transportation and Logistics, or equivalent experience.
• Strong computer proficiency and ability to work in a high‑volume telephone environment.
• Excellent planning, organization, attention to detail, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Effective interpersonal and listening skills with a courteous yet assertive telephone demeanor.
• Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, stressful environment.
