Furniture Technical Designer

About the role

The Furniture Technical Designer will create detailed technical drawings, shop drawings and 3D models for custom furniture and cabinetry, ensuring structural, functional and aesthetic quality. This full‑time, on‑site position is based in Nairobi and works closely with interior designers, project managers and workshop teams.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare detailed technical drawings, shop drawings and 3D models for custom furniture and cabinetry.
• Translate design concepts into production‑ready documentation, specifying materials, finishes and hardware.
• Review measurements, coordinate with manufacturing and installation teams, and update drawings based on client and site feedback.
• Maintain accurate project records and ensure compliance with quality, budget and timeline expectations.
• Participate in site visits, measurements and installation reviews.
• Support continuous improvement of design standards, sustainability practices and production efficiency.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Interior Design, Furniture Design, Industrial Design, Architecture or a related field.
• Proven experience reading and producing construction drawings, shop drawings and 3D visualizations for interior fit‑outs or bespoke woodworking.
• Knowledge of furniture construction methods, joinery techniques, hardware selection and appropriate materials and finishes.
• Understanding of sustainable material options and ability to integrate environmental considerations.
• Strong organizational abilities, attention to detail and capacity to manage multiple projects concurrently.
• Ability to work on‑site in Nairobi and attend site visits as required.
• Previous experience in a joinery, millwork or interior fit‑out environment is highly advantageous.
