About the role
The State Department for Mining is seeking a skilled Gemstone Cutter/Facetor to transform rough gemstones into polished, market‑ready stones. The role involves planning cuts, operating lapidary equipment, and ensuring high‑quality finishes.
Key responsibilities
- Examine rough gemstones and develop optimal cutting plans.
- Mark, saw, split, and pre‑form stones for faceting.
- Cut and facet gemstones to precise angles and proportions.
- Polish gemstones to achieve maximum brilliance and quality.
Required profile
- Diploma in Gemstone Cutting, Lapidary, Gemology, Mineral Processing or Jewellery Technology.
- Knowledge of gemstone identification, grading and valuation techniques.
- Ability to operate and maintain lapidary equipment.
- Strong hand‑eye coordination, attention to detail and manual dexterity.
