General Accountant – Nairobi

About the role

Emerge Egress Consulting is recruiting a meticulous General Accountant for a fast‑growing East African hospitality company. The role involves managing daily financial operations, ensuring statutory compliance, and delivering accurate monthly financial reports.

Key responsibilities

• Post and process daily journal entries to keep the general ledger current.
• Prepare and file statutory returns (VAT, PAYE, Withholding Tax, SHIF, NSSF, Affordable Housing Levy) via the KRA iTax portal.
• Perform weekly and monthly reconciliations of bank, supplier and customer statements.
• Process invoices, monitor client aging reports, follow up on overdue debts and schedule supplier payments.
• Prepare monthly payroll with correct salary, benefits and deductions calculations.
• Assist in preparing balance sheets, income statements and cash‑flow forecasts for management.
• Organise financial documentation to support internal and external audits.
• Undertake any other duties as allocated.

Required profile

• Degree in Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related field.
• Minimum CPA Part 2/Intermediate level (CPA‑K) – CPA‑K or ACCA finalists preferred.
• At least 4 years of hands‑on accounting experience, preferably in hospitality.
• Strong knowledge of Kenyan tax laws and practical mastery of the KRA iTax system.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software.
• Intermediate‑to‑advanced Microsoft Excel.
• Experience using the KRA iTax portal for tax filings.

What we offer

• Competitive gross salary of KES 60,000 per month.
