General Manager - Construction - East Africa

About the role

We are seeking an experienced General Manager to lead business operations, sales, finance and strategic growth across East Africa in the building materials and construction supplies sector.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement business strategies with the CEO to achieve sustainable growth and profitability.
• Oversee daily operations, coordinate across departments and monitor performance against KPIs.
• Lead sales and marketing initiatives to meet revenue targets and expand market presence.
• Manage budgeting, financial planning, forecasting and cost‑control activities.
• Identify and mitigate business and operational risks, ensuring compliance with laws and standards.
• Drive workforce planning, recruitment, employee development and performance management.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years in a General Manager or senior leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of the Kenyan market and at least 5 years in building materials, hardware, construction supplies or related wholesale/retail.
• Proven track record in strategy implementation, operational management and profit improvement.
• Experience managing multicultural teams and multiple departments.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ERP systems and business software.
• Ability to use management information tools for reporting and decision‑making.
• Knowledge of ISO management systems (preferred).
