Ground Cargo Handler / MHE Operator

About the role

Amentum is hiring a full-time Ground Cargo Handler / MHE Operator in Mombasa, Kenya. The role covers operating power industrial trucks (PITs) and other material handling equipment to transport, load and unload cargo safely, including hazardous materials, while working closely with logistics and ground cargo teams.

Key responsibilities

• Operate PITs and other MHE to transport, load and unload cargo safely, following training and safety regulations
• Handle a variety of materials, including hazardous materials (HAZMAT), with proper containment, labeling and transport in line with DOT 49 CFR regulations
• Perform load handling, inspections and operations suited to the equipment and environment, and choose the right vehicle and equipment for each cargo
• Follow safety rules and procedures from PIT/MHE training, including load handling and inspection practices
• Maintain a current HAZMAT endorsement on the government license where applicable, and follow safety standards for hazardous materials
• Carry out routine equipment inspections and maintenance checks
• Keep the government license current and authorized for the vehicle class and size operated, and attend mandatory biennial evaluations and physical assessments
• Collaborate with logistics and ground cargo teams, report equipment or vehicle issues to the supervisor, and keep accurate records of equipment use, cargo movements and hazardous material transport
• Use PPE correctly, report workplace hazards and comply with occupational safety and health standards

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• At least 1 year of experience operating PITs, MHE or similar equipment in a logistics environment
• Formal classroom and practical training in PIT and MHE operation under 49 CFR 1910.178 and DoD 4140.1-R regulations
• Valid government license for the vehicle class and size operated, with a HAZMAT endorsement
• Knowledge of safety rules, operational techniques, inspections and regulatory requirements for PIT and MHE
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Valid passport, able to travel internationally and obtain country-specific visas; able to pass contract medical requirements
• Ability to read, speak and understand English
