Group Tax Manager

About the role

d.light is hiring a full-time Group Tax Manager in Nairobi to drive its tax strategy, ensure compliance across jurisdictions, optimise the group's tax position and oversee tax accounting. The role covers d.light's global operations, including the USA, Mauritius, India, Hong Kong, China, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria and Zambia, and reports to senior leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead the global tax strategy and advise on tax planning, compliance, governance and accounting across regions
• Maintain a formal tax risk register covering all jurisdictions, material positions and open disputes, presented to the CFO and Audit Committee twice a year
• Own compliance with OECD Pillar Two and country-by-country reporting, and submit all filings accurately and on time
• Ensure compliance with corporate tax, transfer pricing, PAYE and indirect taxes, and prepare and submit all tax returns and reports
• Lead tax accounting, including tax provisions, deferred tax analysis and tax payment forecasts for the Group Financial Controller
• Custodian of the transfer pricing policy, intercompany agreements and Double Taxation Agreements
• Monitor global tax law changes and OECD developments, and manage the panel of external tax advisers
• Own the tax technology infrastructure (ERP tax configurations, automation tools) and support tax audits and internal tax projects

Required profile

• Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation or a related discipline
• CPA, ACCA or equivalent, with advanced tax-related courses
• At least 10 years of progressive experience in tax planning, compliance and tax accounting, including 3 years in international corporate taxation across multiple jurisdictions, preferably in East Africa
• Experience with complex multinational organisations, transfer pricing, tax audits and dispute resolution
• Exposure to renewable energy is an added advantage

Required skills

• Solid knowledge of IFRS or US GAAP
• Transfer pricing and cross-border taxation
