About the role
The Head of Controls & Governance will oversee the integrity of reconciliation processes, risk monitoring and assurance across KCB Bank Kenya and its subsidiaries, ensuring compliance with group standards and regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Monitor adherence to the Group’s standards for Nostro, asset and liability suspense account reconciliations and maintain accuracy and integrity.
- Escalate and ensure correction of outstanding items in reconciled accounts for KCB Kenya and its subsidiaries.
- Oversee settlement account reconciliation against statements and ledger balances, and drive automation and centralisation for new products.
- Continuously review compliance, enhance operational efficiency and validate first‑level controls.
- Collaborate with Internal Audit to identify key risk parameters, monitor audit exceptions and manage quality assurance.
- Identify and mitigate risks arising from inadequate processes, people or systems; oversee risk reporting and escalation.
- Apply testing tools to measure effectiveness of operational risk controls and ensure continuous transaction verification.
- Provide assurance that controls are properly designed, implemented and effective, and manage monitoring arrangements.
- Coordinate CMT reviews and ensure comprehensive Business Continuity Management testing and Business Impact Analysis.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Risk Management or related field; a Master’s degree is an advantage.
- Professional qualifications such as CPA(K), ACCA, CIA, CISA are desirable.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in banking operations, shared services, finance, controls or risk management, with at least 6 years in a senior management role.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing governance, risk management and internal control frameworks in a complex banking environment.
- Extensive experience in operational risk identification, control testing, issue remediation, loss prevention and regulatory compliance.
- Strong background in leading audit engagements, regulatory reviews and timely closure of findings.
- Demonstrated ability to lead large teams, manage performance, develop talent and influence stakeholders across Operations, Finance, Technology, Risk, Compliance and subsidiaries.
