Head of Grants

About the role

Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) is hiring a Head of Grants for a full-time, on-site position in Nairobi. The role covers developing and managing grant strategies, overseeing grant applications and reviews, ensuring donor compliance and evaluating the impact of funded programmes. Key responsibilities

• Lead development of grant policies and procedures, grant materials and grants management systems, and lead grants portfolio reviews and continuous improvement.
• Advise the President, Divisional Heads and the COO on proposals and incoming grants, and engage the Board GRC subcommittee on proposal reviews.
• Partner with ICT, Finance and Program teams, and build grants management capability across the organisation.
• Collaborate with the Legal Department on legal review of grants and agreements, and oversee grant agreements and supporting documentation.
• Lead talent management in the grants function, including workforce planning, succession planning and coaching of grants staff.
• Design the annual grant-making budget, plan the flow of grants, provide performance analytics and projections, and create management indicators for the Board and leadership.
• Provide fiscal administration, audit analysis and investment portfolio advice to country teams, and prepare grant reports for donors, the Board and annual reports.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or a related field; Master's degree is an added advantage.
• At least 5 years of senior management experience in grants management within a multi-donor, multi-programme international NGO.
• Good working knowledge of not-for-profit and private foundation law and US funding regulations.
• Professional certification in grants management, project management, finance or compliance (e.g. ACCA, CPA, PMP) is desirable.
