Heavy Lift Technical Specialist (M/F)

About the role

AGL (Africa Global Logistics), a multimodal logistics operator (port, logistics, maritime and rail) in Africa and part of the MSC Group, is hiring a Heavy Lift Technical Specialist in Nairobi. The specialist is responsible for the technical execution of complex heavy lift and out-of-gauge (OOG) transport operations, with specific expertise in Nicolas hydraulic platform trailer systems. The position is permanent and full time.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the setup, configuration and operation of Nicolas hydraulic platform trailers for heavy and abnormal load transport.
• Execute jacking and skidding operations according to approved lift and transport plans.
• Configure multi-axle modular trailer combinations based on load distribution, axle loads, route constraints and engineering specifications.
• Oversee load stability and securement to meet safety and regulatory standards.
• Interpret method statements, engineering drawings and load calculations, and supervise staging of cargo on beams, stools and saddles.
• Coordinate modular movements, including steering synchronization and hydraulic leveling, and take part in route surveys and feasibility assessments.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on hydraulic platform trailers and troubleshoot hydraulic, steering and suspension systems.
• Ensure strict adherence to QHSE standards and support compliance with transport regulations and abnormal load permitting.
• Work with project managers, rigging crews, transport coordinators and workshop teams, and act as on-site technical authority for hydraulic trailer deployment.

Required profile

• Diploma in Heavy Lift and Project Cargo Operations.
• Minimum 7-10 years of hands-on experience in heavy lift and abnormal load operations.
• Demonstrated expertise with Nicolas hydraulic platform trailer systems (mandatory).
• Proven experience in jacking, skidding, modular load movement and heavy cargo staging.
• Experience in complex project environments such as oil & gas, infrastructure or industry.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of modular hydraulic trailer configuration and steering systems.
• Strong troubleshooting across hydraulic, mechanical and suspension systems.
• Practical knowledge of engineered support systems (beams, stools, saddles).
• Understanding of lift planning and load stability analysis, and ability to read technical drawings and method statements.
