Hospital Plumber – Maintenance & Repairs

About the role

The Hospital Plumber is responsible for ensuring a reliable supply of clean water and maintaining all plumbing, heating, and drainage systems within the facility. This role combines hands‑on technical work with supervision of external contractors and coordination with other departments.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain continuous supply of clean water across the hospital premises.
• Perform preventive maintenance on fixtures, detect clogged drains, repair leaks, and replace worn components.
• Read water meters, record usage, and generate reports.
• Install, cut, thread, and groove pipes and fittings to meet project goals.
• Repair and replace high‑pressure steam systems, hot‑water heating, drainage, and culinary water filtration systems.
• Test and service backflow prevention devices.
• Manage inventory of plumbing supplies, tools, and spare parts; place orders as needed.
• Supervise external plumbing contractors and assist with in‑house remodel designs.
• Respond to on‑call emergencies, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Document all work in the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and process work orders.
• Ensure safe work practices, maintain a clean environment, and train co‑workers on procedures.

Required profile

• Proven experience in hospital or large‑facility plumbing maintenance.
• Ability to work on‑call and handle emergency situations.
• Strong communication skills for coordinating with department supervisors and external contractors.
• Commitment to safety standards and proper use of personal protective equipment.

Required skills

• Pipe installation, cutting, threading, and grooving.
• Repair of high‑pressure steam and hot‑water heating systems.
• Drainage system maintenance and backflow prevention device testing.
• Water meter reading and usage reporting.
• Use of Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for tracking work orders.
• Inventory management of plumbing parts and tools.
• Operation of hand and powered plumbing tools safely.
