Hotel Accountant

About the role

A three-star hotel in Mombasa is looking for a reliable Hotel Accountant. The post reports to the Hotel General Manager, with a dotted line to the Chief Finance Officer. Key duties include daily sales and cash reconciliations, banking cash promptly and checking that sales posted from POS to Navision are accurate.

Key responsibilities

• Compute food and beverage costs and, with the GM and Chef, draft menus with predetermined margins; assist with event menu costing.
• Lead the preparation and updating of the fixed asset register, in line with company policy.
• Ensure monthly bank reconciliation statements are completed and sent to the CFO/Senior Accountant by the 5th of the following month.
• Prevent revenue leakage and unauthorized discounts or complimentary items, and make sure all selling staff account for their cash, with shortfalls resolved within 24 hours.
• Book, validate and reconcile invoices against supplier statements before payment.
• Send daily sales reports and cash collection reconciliation reports, including guest deposits.
• Pay utility bills, licenses and permits on time to avoid penalties or service disruption.
• Produce monthly income and expenditure (P&L) accounts with a payables aged listing for the CFO.
• Carry out monthly stock-taking of inventory and fixed assets with the stock controller and analyse variances.
• Perform other tasks requested by the GM or CFO.

Required profile

• Fully qualified accountant (CPA(K)) with a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or commerce; BCom with CPA 2 may also be considered.
• At least two years' experience in the hotel/hospitality industry in a senior or managerial position.
• Detail-oriented, strong leadership skills, able to work under pressure, with integrity, confidentiality, discipline and punctuality.
