Information Technology Assistant, G6

About the role

The United Nations is recruiting an Information Technology Assistant (G6) in Nairobi, Westlands. The position requires extensive hands-on experience in server administration, data centre operations and ICT support.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent, plus a supplemental course or technical certificate in information technology or a related field.
• Certification in CompTIA A+ and Microsoft certification in Azure Cloud Foundation.
• At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in information systems, server administration, data centre operations, network infrastructure management, ICT support services or a related field; five years if the candidate holds a first-level university degree.

Required skills

• Administering and managing Linux, Windows and virtual server environments, including configuration, deployment, monitoring, maintenance, security and troubleshooting.
• Managing data centre facilities and switch room operations, including environmental monitoring, power, cooling, physical infrastructure and compliance with industry standards and best practices.
• Desirable: open-source databases and web application support such as Apache, MySQL, MariaDB and PostgreSQL.
• Desirable: ICT service delivery, end-user support, vendor coordination and client engagement.
• Desirable: scripting, infrastructure automation, enterprise backup and recovery, disaster recovery solutions and technical documentation.
