Inpatient (IP) Pharmacy In Charge

About the role

Avenue Healthcare is hiring an Inpatient (IP) Pharmacy In Charge in Kisumu, Kenya. The role covers the day-to-day running of the inpatient pharmacy, including billing, stock control, medication safety and patient service, and reports to the Pharmacy Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Keep the pharmacy equipment in good working order and ensure the pharmacy is well stocked according to re-order levels.
• Ensure timely, accurate and 100% billing of drugs, including handling manual recording when the hospital management system is down.
• Counter-check prescriptions for dose, allergy, patient identification, right drug and legibility, prevent medication errors and give clear usage instructions.
• Manage expiry: weekly checks, FIFO/FEFO with green stickers on short-expiry drugs, quarantine and disposal of expired drugs per PPB regulations, and escalate urgent out-of-stock items to the Pharmacy Manager.
• Record all stock movements in the HIS in real time, including DDA dispensed, and enter invoices into the system by end of month.
• Receive, counter-check and sign delivery notes against LPOs, generate LPOs to suppliers and return drugs with less than six months' expiry to suppliers if not consumed.
• Maintain fridge temperature charts twice daily, keep the emergency trolley stocked and manage the pharmacy's cleanliness and presentation.
• Escalate quality issues, adhere to corporate governance, prevent fraud, implement audit recommendations and record sentinel events within 24 hours.
• Deliver high-quality service, maintain patient privacy and confidentiality, and file patient satisfaction feedback tools.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy.
• Licensed pharmacist with a valid, up-to-date practicing license from the PPB.
• At least 3 years of experience, including at least 1 year in supervision.
• Organizational awareness, attention to detail, strong interpersonal and communication skills, teamwork and reliability.
