Internal Audit Risk and Compliance Manager

About the role

A leading, fast-growing Sacco in Nairobi is hiring an Internal Audit, Risk and Compliance Manager through its recruiter, Stratostaff East Africa. The role reports functionally to the Audit Committee of the Board and administratively to the CEO, and provides independent, risk-based assurance on the effectiveness and efficiency of the Sacco's internal controls. It covers planning and executing internal audits, identifying control gaps and recommending improvements to governance, risk management and controls.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare a risk-based annual audit plan, execute audit assignments and track the closure of audit recommendations, while performing consulting engagements for management
• Conduct annual risk assessments, maintain an operational risk register and assess risks of new products before launch
• Review policies and procedures, audit compliance with the regulatory framework (including tax and SASRA) and statutory deductions and remittances
• Liaise with external auditors and follow up on statutory management letter recommendations
• Ensure the Board and staff understand internal audit, communicate its plans and resource needs, and promote corporate governance
• Facilitate information flow between members and stakeholders and act as an advocate for the Sacco

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance; an MBA is an added advantage
• ICPAK membership and CISA/CIA certification
• Minimum of 8 years' experience, 5 of which in a similar position, preferably within the cooperative movement

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and good knowledge of core banking systems
• Leadership, planning and prioritisation, and ability to work under minimum supervision
• Ability to review data, spot discrepancies and handle a large volume of work under time pressure
