Internal Audit Senior

About the role

M-KOPA Solar is hiring an Internal Audit Senior in Nairobi, reporting to the Head of Internal Audit & Risk. The role leads individual internal audit engagements end-to-end across the company's operating markets (Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa), contributing to the annual audit plan and presenting findings to management. It is an execution and delivery role, and the vacancy is open until 09/11/2026.

Key responsibilities

• Lead audits from planning and scoping through fieldwork, documentation, reporting and follow-up, in line with IIA standards and internal methodology
• Manage engagement timelines, evidence quality and working paper standards independently
• Identify root causes, assess risk impact and propose practical recommendations, using data analytics and audit tools
• Present findings to process owners and management and prepare well-evidenced reports for the Head of Internal Audit & Risk
• Build working relationships with process owners and country teams
• Contribute to the annual risk-based audit plan, flag emerging risks and track closure of management actions
• Support audit methodology, templates and standards, and mentor junior team members

Required profile

• Degree in a business-related field, IT, Business Information Systems or a related field from a recognised university
• Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or ACCA (or equivalent such as CPA); additional certifications such as CISM are an advantage
• At least 7 years of audit experience, including prior experience at a Big Four or equivalent top-tier external audit firm
• Proven track record of leading audits independently, ideally covering both business process and technology-related audits
• Willingness to travel and operate across multiple markets and cultures

Required skills

• Technical audit execution: testing design, sampling, evidence evaluation and root-cause analysis
• Clear communication, able to defend findings to management
• Sound knowledge of risk management principles and control frameworks
• Ability to manage several concurrent engagements with minimal supervision
