Internal Auditor

About the role

A Pan-African energy company with over 500 service stations across East Africa and a recent renewable energy joint venture is seeking an Internal Auditor based at its Nairobi head office. The role reports to the Senior Internal Auditor and evaluates the risk management and internal control environment across a complex multi-country structure.

Key responsibilities

• Help develop risk-based internal audit plans and perform risk assessments, keeping an up-to-date risk register
• Test the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls, management information systems and financial reporting, and verify compliance with laws and regulations
• Write clear, timely audit reports and agree corrective action plans with management
• Follow up on audit issues, track open recommendations and report progress to leadership
• Coordinate with external auditors and act as a point of contact for regulators
• Conduct confidential investigations into fraud or misconduct and undertake ad-hoc reviews
• Support compliance with ISO 9001:2015 and group governance standards

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field
• Professional qualification such as CPA(K), ACCA or equivalent
• At least five years of relevant internal or external audit experience
• Membership of a professional body such as ICPAK, ACCA or the IIA is an added advantage

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of IIA auditing standards, risk management frameworks and internal control models
• Advanced MS Office; ERP, accounting platforms and data analysis tools are highly desirable
• Analytical thinking, stakeholder engagement and professional integrity
