Investment Officer – Microfinance (Dadaab)

About the role

The Investment Officer will manage micro‑lending for refugee entrepreneurs in Dadaab, overseeing loan appraisals, portfolio growth and compliance with Kiva partnership requirements. The role combines client interaction, due‑diligence, and investment system management.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to borrower inquiries, guide them through application, and conduct full investment appraisals, including site visits and documentation.
• Prepare and execute investment contracts, disburse funds, and ensure accurate reporting for Investment Committee meetings.
• Maintain strong borrower relationships through daily communication, site visits, and monitoring to keep delinquency and default rates within targets.
• Update disbursements and repayments in the CBS‑powered Mifos investment management system, manage user access, and streamline processes.
• Collaborate with Finance & Admin to produce invoices, reconcile monthly transactions, and generate required reports.
• Interact with government officials and courts when necessary to resolve payment issues and ensure compliance with Kiva reporting.

Required profile

• University degree in Finance, Business or a related field.
• Fluent in English and Swahili; knowledge of local language is a plus.
• Minimum 4 years experience in micro‑finance, lending, or investment management, preferably with SME clients.
• Experience in Islamic lending, business advisory, and handling difficult debtors.
• Ability to work legally in Kenya.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Mifos (CBS‑powered investment management system).
• Experience using Core Banking System applications.
