ISP Field Technician (Fibre Optics)

About the role

Brites Management Services is hiring a full-time ISP Field Technician for its Ngong Road location. The role covers installing and maintaining fibre optic networks, including FTTH and FTTB connections, and responding to customer connectivity issues.

Key responsibilities

• Install FTTH and FTTB connections, pull and route fibre and Cat6 cables, terminate and test them, and install CPE, routers and switches
• Diagnose and fix network faults, replace damaged cables and hardware, and respond to outages and emergency maintenance
• Perform fusion splicing, OTDR and power meter testing, and keep records of splicing, testing and repairs
• Interact professionally with customers, explain equipment use and escalate unresolved issues
• Climb poles safely with PPE, maintain tools and vehicles, and report hazards
• Complete installation reports, maintenance logs and service tickets, and update work orders and customer records

Required profile

• Diploma in Telecommunications, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering or a related field
• At least 2 years of experience in fibre optic installation, maintenance and troubleshooting within an ISP or telecom environment
• Practical pole-climbing experience and hands-on FTTH deployment experience
• Relevant fibre optics or networking certifications (e.g. FOA, CCNA) are an added advantage

Required skills

• Fibre splicing and testing with OTDR, power meter and visual fault locator
• Cat6 cable termination and structured cabling
• Networking basics: IP addressing, routers, switches and Wi-Fi configuration
