Miale Solar Solutions · Nairobi
Job description
About the role
Miale Solar Solutions is looking for an IT & Cybersecurity Specialist to protect its systems, networks, user accounts, backups and company data from unauthorised access and cyber threats, while keeping day-to-day IT infrastructure running reliably. The role reports to the Data & Information Systems Manager, who sets the overall data and security standards. Depending on company needs, the position may initially be filled on an outsourced or part-time/retainer basis.
Key responsibilities
- Network and systems security: configure and maintain firewalls, antivirus and anti-malware tools, secure office and remote networks (Wi-Fi, VPN, remote access), keep systems patched and run periodic vulnerability checks.
- Access management: set up, modify and deactivate user accounts and access rights, enforce strong authentication such as multi-factor authentication, monitor for suspicious activity and keep a record of who has access to what.
- Backups and business continuity: maintain regular backups and test restores, maintain and test disaster-recovery procedures and ensure redundancy or failover where practical.
- Incident response: monitor for alerts and breaches, investigate and contain incidents, document them and report significant issues to the manager, and support post-incident reviews.
- IT support and operations: provide general IT support or coordinate with an outsourced provider, manage devices, licences and IT assets, and keep documentation of the IT environment and security configurations.
- Awareness and compliance: support staff training on phishing and safe data handling, help meet data-protection and client security expectations, and stay up to date on emerging threats.
Required profile
- Degree, diploma or recognised certification in IT, computer science, networking or cybersecurity (CompTIA Security+, CCNA or similar is an advantage).
- 2-4 years of experience in IT administration, network support or cybersecurity, ideally in small or medium businesses.
- Experience with firewalls, antivirus/endpoint protection, backup systems and access-management tools.
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals (LAN/WAN, VPN, Wi-Fi security) and common operating systems.
- Experience investigating security incidents is an added advantage.
Required skills
- Working knowledge of LAN/WAN, VPN and Wi-Fi security.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms and SaaS security settings (e.g. Microsoft 365/Google Workspace) is beneficial.
- Ability to explain technical issues clearly to non-technical colleagues, work independently and in a small team, and act methodically and securely.
