Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse Internship

About the role

This 4‑month Labor and Delivery Internship at Morton Plant Hospital provides new or experienced RNs with hands‑on clinical experience and classroom education in both low‑risk and high‑risk obstetric care. Interns start on the day shift, complete a structured curriculum, and transition to night shift after the program.

Key responsibilities

• Provide independent, patient‑centered nursing care on the Labor, Delivery, Recovery (LDR) unit.
• Utilize the nursing process and clinical standards to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care.
• Delegate appropriate tasks to other healthcare team members.
• Participate in classroom sessions and precepted clinical rotations.
• Document care accurately and maintain professional accountability.

Required profile

• Associate Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma (Bachelor’s preferred).
• Active, unrestricted RN license.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Preferably 1+ year of acute‑care RN experience; new graduates are also considered.
• Must not be enrolled in any other academic program during the internship.

• Perinatal bereavement support.

What we offer

• Approximately 30 classroom hours combined with precepted clinical experience.
• 49 Continuing Education (CE) credits and AWHONN Perinatal Orientation and Education Program (POEP).
• Transition to night shift (7 PM – 7 AM) after program completion.
• Two‑year commitment to the unit with a total of 3,744 work hours post‑internship.
