Leaf Officer – Supervise Tobacco Extension Services

About the role

The Leaf Officer will lead the extension services for tobacco production, ensuring that crop plans, quality standards, and cost targets are met across the assigned area. This role combines technical agronomy, loan supervision, risk management, and community liaison to drive sustainable leaf production.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and obtain approval for crop plans, from farmer contracting to market delivery.
• Implement, monitor, and adjust action plans to achieve agreed leaf quantity, quality, and cost.
• Provide technical guidance to extension contractors and farmers to maximise yields and farmer returns.
• Evaluate competitor activity and apply proactive measures to maintain competitive advantage.
• Disseminate company policies on tobacco growing to farmers and the community.
• Ensure compliance with all company guidelines (EH&S, procurement, IT, accounting, etc.).
• Supervise farmer loans, monitor repayment, and minimise default risk.
• Identify and manage business risks, securing necessary approvals.
• Train, develop and motivate staff to achieve high performance.
• Coordinate community development projects with local leadership.

Required profile

• Proven experience in agricultural supervision, preferably in tobacco or similar cash crops.
• Strong understanding of crop planning, loan management, and risk mitigation.
• Ability to work with farmers, extension contractors, and local authorities.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
