Lecturer – Special Needs Education (Hearing Impairments)

About the role

Mount Kenya University seeks a dedicated Lecturer to deliver undergraduate, diploma and certificate programmes in Special Needs Education with a focus on hearing impairments. The role involves curriculum development, teaching, research and community engagement within the School of Education.

Key responsibilities

• Participate in curriculum development and review for hearing‑impairment programmes.
• Prepare detailed course outlines and learning materials.
• Teach undergraduate, diploma and certificate courses and set, invigilate, and grade examinations.
• Supervise student projects, attend defence meetings and monitor attendance requirements.
• Conduct research, publish findings and present at conferences.
• Attract research funding and facilitate field studies, attachments and internships.
• Report to the Dean of the School of Education and attend university meetings and functions.
• Carry out administrative duties as assigned.

Required profile

• PhD, Master’s or Bachelor of Education in Special Needs Education (Hearing Impairments) from a recognised institution.
• Minimum three years of university‑level teaching experience.
• Registration with the relevant professional body.
• Ability to report to the Dean and collaborate within the School of Education.
