Legal Counsel, Risk & Compliance

About the role

KCB Group is hiring a Legal Counsel, Risk & Compliance for its Nairobi office. The role advises the Bank on legislation and compliance matters, supports internal compliance audits and handles powers of attorney and court orders.

Key responsibilities

• Review legislation, proposed bills, judicial decisions, best practice and market trends affecting the Bank and recommend changes to Bank policies and procedures.
• Analyse compliance requirements of existing, new and revised laws and regulations, and advise on compliance matters.
• Conduct internal legal compliance audits and examinations, and liaise with business units to develop mitigating measures and remedial actions.
• Update legal compliance checklists and matrices used for compliance reviews.
• Support research, drafting and review of Bank policies and product terms and conditions.
• Manage Powers of Attorney: preparation, registration, revocation and maintenance of records.
• Verify court orders and give legal guidance on their implementation and execution.
• Maintain department reference materials, subscribe to the Kenya Gazette, Legal Notices and Bills, and keep the Bank's Laws of Kenya sets up to date.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B).
• Diploma in Law.
• Advocate of the High Court.
• At least 4 years of post-admission work experience, including legal drafting, corporate and commercial law, dispute resolution and legal risk management.
