Legal Officer

About the role

Mater Misericordiae Hospital, a leading healthcare provider in East and Central Africa, is recruiting a Legal Officer. The successful candidate reports to the Legal Services Manager and handles the legal affairs of the institution.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and manage contracts, lease security documents, MOUs and other legal documents between the institution and other parties.
• Review and negotiate agreements with suppliers and customers, including sales and service contracts, non-disclosure agreements and tender documents.
• Communicate with external attorneys to advise on the institution's obligations, rights, risks and privileges.
• Work with HR, Finance and Business Development to ensure legal compliance.
• Help enforce procedures and policies with HR, management or an external attorney.
• Review demand letters, statutory notices, pleadings, affidavits and other litigation documents, and guide on litigation matters.
• Manage litigation records and liaise with external lawyers for contract negotiations, dispute settlement and litigation.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree.
• Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law.
• Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a current Practising Certificate.
• 3 years of relevant work experience.

Required skills

• Drafting and report writing.
• Strong knowledge of contract drafting and lease transactions.
• Analytical thinking and good interpersonal skills.
• Good verbal and written communication.
