Legal Services Manager – Debt Collection & Litigation

About the role

The Legal Services Manager will protect Equity Bank’s interests by overseeing all legal and contractual matters related to debt collection and litigation. Reporting to senior management, the role combines legal advisory, case management and risk mitigation to support the bank’s loan portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and defend legal cases involving defaulting debtors, including court proceedings and alternative dispute resolution.
• Oversee ongoing debt‑collection litigations filed for and against the bank, coordinating with external counsel and cross‑functional teams.
• Design and implement litigation strategies to safeguard the bank’s assets and minimize exposure.
• Provide sound legal advice on statutory and contractual compliance, reviewing new and existing regulations.
• Conduct legal research and draft opinions on emerging legal issues affecting the bank.
• Maintain up‑to‑date case files and ensure timely reporting to senior management.

Required profile

• Senior‑level legal professional with extensive experience in banking or financial services.
• Proven track record in debt‑collection litigation and case management.
• Strong understanding of Kenyan commercial law, regulatory frameworks and contractual obligations.
• Ability to work collaboratively with external counsel and internal stakeholders.
