About the role
The Monitoring + Evaluation (M+E) Social Coordinator is the focal point for community-centered MEAL activities and social safeguard monitoring (FPIC, community consultations, grievance mechanisms) in the project's MEAL/MRV system. The role tracks community outcomes and safeguards documentation to meet carbon standard requirements, working closely with the M+E GIS Coordinator. It is a full-time position based at the Olokeri Landscape Project office, with regular travel to implementation sites, open to Kenyan nationals only.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee social safeguard monitoring within MEAL/MRV, ensuring FPIC, community feedback and social indicators are captured, stored and audit-ready, and integrate them with spatial data with the GIS Coordinator.
- Document stakeholder engagement processes, focusing on FPIC, and act as main contact for community participation data.
- Design and run surveys, interviews and participatory methods, train field teams, and ensure QA/QC of social datasets.
- Administer the grievance mechanism, track and resolve grievances, and support management in addressing systemic issues.
- Analyze social data to assess community outcomes and risks, and produce reports for internal use and external verification, integrating insights with GIS outputs.
- Maintain complete documentation (FPIC, engagement logs, benefit-sharing) and support audits aligned with carbon standards such as Equitable Earth and VCS/CCB.
- Coordinate with the GIS Coordinator and project teams to align fieldwork and ensure culturally appropriate engagement.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Community Development, Natural Resource Management, Development Studies or a related field; a Master's is a plus.
- At least 3 years of experience in monitoring and evaluation, social research or community development, including field experience in stakeholder engagement or social safeguards in environmental or conservation projects.
- Experience with FPIC and community-based monitoring in rural settings, and with carbon project co-benefit standards, is strongly preferred.
- Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required; Kiswahili and/or Maa is a strong asset.
- Visa sponsorship is not available.
Required skills
- Social research, community M&E, surveys, participatory methods and qualitative analysis.
- Managing social datasets and producing audit-ready records.
- Writing clear reports and safeguard documentation for internal use and external auditors.
- MS Office and data collection and analysis tools; EarthRanger and Ecoscope familiarity is an advantage.
- Ability to work in remote field settings, with moderate physical activity and occasional overnight travel.
