Medical Laboratory Technician

About the role

Gero's Cottage Hospital LTD provides primary healthcare to underserved communities in informal settlements in Kisumu, focusing on accessible, affordable and compassionate care. It is hiring a full-time, on-site Medical Laboratory Technician to work in its laboratory.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and process patient specimens and perform routine and specialized laboratory tests
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment according to established protocols
• Ensure accurate test results, document findings and communicate them to clinicians in a timely way to support diagnosis and treatment
• Take part in quality control procedures and follow infection prevention and safety standards
• Maintain an organized, clean and compliant laboratory environment and collaborate with the clinical team

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent, with valid registration or licensing as required by local regulations
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy in documentation and ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Knowledge of infection prevention, biosafety and handling of hazardous materials in a clinical laboratory
• Effective communication and teamwork with clinical and administrative staff; experience in resource-limited or community healthcare settings is an advantage
