Oncology Medical Head, SSA & FSA – Nairobi

About the role

The Oncology Medical Head will lead AstraZeneca's oncology medical affairs in the Sub‑Saharan Africa (SSA) and Francophone Sub‑Saharan Africa (FSA) region from Nairobi. This senior position combines scientific leadership with commercial acumen to drive strategic medical initiatives, enhance patient pathways, and strengthen partnerships with key oncology stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the local medical strategic plan aligned with brand objectives and unmet medical needs.
• Lead, build and coach a high‑performing medical affairs team, ensuring staffing, performance monitoring and succession planning.
• Engage opinion leaders, diagnostic specialists, payors and patient advocacy groups through advisory boards, scientific exchange meetings and congresses.
• Provide medical input for brand strategy, lifecycle management, clinical study protocols, market access and promotional material compliance.
• Oversee the design and implementation of pre‑launch and post‑launch medical activities, including NIS, registries and research collaborations.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in oncology medical affairs, preferably within a multinational pharmaceutical environment.
• Proven leadership skills with ability to develop teams and drive cross‑functional collaboration.
• Strong understanding of the SSA/FSA disease landscape, diagnostics, treatment access and regulatory environment.
• Demonstrated ability to engage senior HCPs, external research partners and health‑system stakeholders.
