Operations Theatre Manager

About the role

The Operations Theatre Manager leads the surgical suite to ensure safe, efficient, and high‑quality patient care. Reporting to senior hospital leadership, you will coordinate clinical teams, manage theatre resources, and enforce compliance with infection‑control standards.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise daily operating theatre activities, optimise scheduling and utilisation of OT rooms.
• Coordinate elective and emergency surgeries with surgeons, anaesthetists, nursing staff, CSSD and biomedical departments.
• Ensure strict adherence to aseptic techniques, monitor sterilisation processes and oversee biomedical waste disposal.
• Manage OT staff rosters, conduct competency assessments and provide training.
• Maintain functionality of anaesthesia machines, surgical lights, electrocautery units, suction devices and laparoscopic equipment.
• Control inventory of consumables, monitor instrument counts and coordinate preventive maintenance.
• Prepare documentation for audits, monitor budgets and handle incident reporting.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Hospital Management or OT Management.
• Valid registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya (for nurse managers).
• 5–8 years of experience in operating theatre services, including 2–3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
