Operator in Responsible Charge - Water Treatment

About the role

Amentum is recruiting an Operator in Responsible Charge in Mombasa, Kenya, to manage the day-to-day operation and maintenance of water treatment plants (WTP) and distribution systems. The role ensures water quality standards are met and systems run efficiently, in line with local, state and federal regulations including CNIC M-5090.1A.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily operations and maintenance of water treatment plants and distribution systems in compliance with regulations.
• Perform operational duties so that water quality standards are met and systems operate efficiently.
• Supervise and coordinate certified plant operators and technicians.
• Maintain a current Level III Treatment and Level III Distribution operator certification and meet professional development requirements.
• Conduct regular inspections and testing of water systems and ensure compliance with operational and safety standards.
• Troubleshoot operational issues to minimise system downtime.
• Maintain accurate operational, maintenance and performance records.
• Manage water testing and reporting to meet quality assurance and regulatory standards.
• Communicate clearly with internal staff and stakeholders in verbal and written English.
• Arrange approved temporary replacements during absences for vacation or business trips.

Required profile

• Certified Level III Treatment and Level III Distribution operator.
• 1-3 years of experience managing water treatment, distribution systems or similar plants.
• Valid passport, valid for at least one year at hiring, and ability to travel internationally; must be able to obtain country-specific visas and pass contract medical requirements.
• Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials.
• Proficiency in reading, speaking and writing English.

Preferred qualifications

• Prior experience in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce.
• Strong knowledge of CNIC M-5090.1A standards and compliance.
• Experience leading a team of certified operators and strong leadership and organisational skills.
• Proficiency in water quality testing, monitoring and troubleshooting.
