People Operations Consultant (Maternity Cover)

About the role

Zeno, an electric mobility company, is hiring a full-time People Operations Consultant in Nairobi to cover maternity leave. The consultant keeps the employee lifecycle running smoothly and in line with labour law, advises managers and staff on HR policy and processes, and improves HR processes and data use. The role is on-site.

Key responsibilities

• Run onboarding, contract changes, promotions, transfers and exits end to end, and prepare and maintain employment contracts, offer letters and HR documentation
• Keep employee records accurate and audit-ready in the HRIS
• Advise managers and employees on HR policies and procedures, support disciplinary, grievance and performance-improvement processes, and coach managers to handle people issues fairly
• Draft, review and update HR policies and the employee handbook, ensure compliance with labour law, statutory deductions and data protection, and track regulatory changes
• Send monthly payroll inputs, reconcile them with Finance, administer benefits such as medical cover, pension and leave, and act as first point of contact for benefits providers
• Map and simplify HR processes, configure and improve the HRIS and self-service tools, and produce monthly headcount, turnover and absence reports
• Support performance reviews, engagement surveys and learning initiatives, and contribute to wellbeing, DEI and culture programmes

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resource Management, Business, Psychology or a related field
• Professional HR certification such as CHRP or CIPD Level 5
• 5-10 years of experience in HR or People Operations, ideally including a generalist or advisory role
• Strong working knowledge of local labour law and statutory compliance
• Sound judgement on employee-relations cases and confidentiality

Required skills

• Hands-on experience with an HRIS and people processes
• Clear written and spoken communication, able to advise senior managers
• Excel or Google Sheets and working with data
