Physical Scientist / Biologist / Mathematical Statistician (Data Science)

About the role

The U.S. Geological Survey is seeking a Physical Scientist, Biologist, or Mathematical Statistician to lead data‑science projects that support water prediction and assessment initiatives. This interdisciplinary position can be performed remotely or at an agreed‑upon USGS location.

Key responsibilities

• Lead projects within the Data Science capability set, including data‑driven modeling, reproducible workflows, and data visualization.
• Integrate data‑science techniques with traditional domain methods on priority projects.
• Design analytical models, use cases, and scenarios for data collection, reporting, and decision‑making.
• Implement new and existing data‑science approaches, including architecting solutions and automating workflows.
• Strategize and prototype new data‑science methods for USGS water‑prediction and assessment projects.

Required profile

• Open to candidates at the GS‑12 level or lower grade levels, with opportunities for on‑the‑job training and supervision.
• Ability to work independently in a remote or office environment.
