Plant Mechanic

About the role

A well-established manufacturing company based in Athi River, Kenya, is looking for a skilled and reliable Plant Mechanic to support the maintenance, repair and optimal performance of mechanical equipment in its production facility. The role is key to keeping plant operations running smoothly, minimising downtime and maintaining safe and efficient production.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on plant machinery and mechanical systems.
• Inspect equipment regularly to identify wear, faults or potential failures and take corrective action.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical faults in generators, compressors, forklifts, pumps, engines, gearboxes and motors.
• Dismantle, repair and reassemble mechanical components, replace worn or defective parts and restore equipment to working condition.
• Troubleshoot breakdowns, identify root causes and work with production and maintenance teams to minimise downtime.
• Install, align and commission new machinery and components, and support upgrades, modifications and equipment relocation.
• Ensure compliance with safety procedures and regulatory standards, maintain proper use of PPE and report recurring faults with improvement recommendations.

Required profile

• Diploma or certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Plant Maintenance, Industrial Mechanics or a related field.
• Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in plant maintenance or an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Good understanding of industrial safety standards and maintenance best practices.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, manuals and schematics.
• Analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, able to work under pressure.
